Since the depth of the financial crisis, Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS ) has been the top-performing stock in gaming and has become a $60 billion behemoth in the industry. Macau has clearly been the major driver, with Las Vegas Sands owning four major resorts in the world's largest gaming market, and Singapore's Marina Bay Sands is the company's second most profitable resort, expanding exposure to Asia.
LVS data by YCharts.
However, with the equity and net debt value (enterprise value) of Las Vegas Sands now 13.4 times the EBITDA (a proxy we use for cash flow) it has created over the past 12 months, the stock is a higher risk than it once was. Let's take a look at whether this is still a great stock for investors.
Well positioned in Macau
When comparing casino operators in Macau, one of the first things to look at is the location of their resorts. The old gaming region on the Macau Peninsula is becoming more and more like Downtown Las Vegas, with smaller and older casinos than the megaresorts of Cotai. Cotai is an area of reclaimed land between Taipa and Coloane islands in Macau, creating a blank slate where Las Vegas Sands made a huge bet on the future of gaming.

How to play gold
Owning shares of GLD is a solid way to gain exposure to gold and avoid some of the stock-specific risks associated with owning stocks such as Goldcorp. Barrick Gold (NYSE: ABX ) holds the appeal of being the largest gold miner on the planet, but it carries the same risks as Goldcorp. Despite the company's promise to tighten its belt, it faces the same pressures -- rising production costs and environmental concerns. If gold runs, silver is likely to follow suit. Thus, the iShares Silver Trust (NYSEMKT: SLV ) will probably move as well. The industrial nature of silver may make it more appealing in the near term while you wait for Fed policy to change. Likewise, Silver Wheaton (NYSE: SLW ) is a great way to get exposure to precious metals. The silver streaming company buys the output of other miners at a set cost, meaning it, too, is insulated from production cost concerns. The company has thus been able to simultaneously achieve an operating margin above 70% and still boast the largest silver reserve on Earth, at more than 1 billion ounces. - [By Dan Caplinger]
2. Precious metals
With the Federal Reserve's signaling that interest rates will head higher sooner rather than later, precious metals plunged. Gold had a massive one-day drop that helped send prices of the SPDR Gold ETF (NYSEMKT: GLD ) down 7% for the week, while iShares Silver (NYSEMKT: SLV ) dropped an even more dramatic 9%. - [By idahansen]
It has been a bullish quarter, at long last, for gold (NYSE: GLD) and silver (NYSE: SLV).
The exchange traded fund for gold, SPDR Gold Shares, is up for the last week, month, and quarter of market action. It is the much the same story for the exchange traded fund for silver, iShares Silver Trust. There is also a bullish outlook for publicly traded companies in the sector such as Barrick Gold (NYSE: ABX), Wishbone Gold PLC (PINK: WISHY), and Goldcorp (NYSE: GG).

Monday's Volume: 922,000
Three-Month Average Volume: 252,148
Volume % Change: 241%From a technical perspective, ACIW jumped higher here and broke out above some near-term overhead resistance at $49.941 with heavy upside volume. This move is coming after shares of ACIW recently dipped from $49.91 to $46 with heavy downside volume. Shares of ACIW are now trending within range of triggering a major breakout trade. That trade will hit if ACIW manages to take out its 52-week and Monday's intraday high of $51.88 with high volume.
Traders should now look for long-biased trades in ACIW as long as it's trending above that first breakout level of $49.91 or above more near-term support at $48 and then once it sustains a move or close above $51.88 with volume that's near or above 252,148 shares. Advisors' Opinion:- [By Lawrence Meyers]
I also like both Public Storage (PSA) and its Series T preferred stock.
As a result of the financial crisis, many people lost their homes. What happens when people get evicted from a house? They downsize. That one reason wee seen apartment REIT stock prices appreciate, but that also why Public Storage has done so well. You can fit a household worth of stuff into an apartment, so you rent storage for all those extra-large sofas. Housing remains troubled, and with people increasingly being moved into part-time jobs or leaving the workforce, this overall secular trend is continuing.
