According to Destatis, the official German statistics agency, Germany's GDP grew just 0.4% in 2013. This is the lowest growth rate since the 5.1% drop registered in 2009, during the global financial crisis. The German government also finished the year with a 0.1% deficit, versus a 0.1% surplus in 2012. So, although it remains stable, the country might start to revert trends and fall into recession. The Company and Occidental Petroleum Corporation are equal partners in a joint venture, Armand Products Company, which manufactures and markets potassium carbonate and potassium bicarbonate for sale in domestic and international markets. The potassium-based products are used in a range of applications, including agricultural products, specialty glass and ceramics, and potassium silicates. Armand Products also manufactures for the Company a potassium carbonate-based animal feed additive for sale in the dairy industry. A special grade of sodium bicarbonate, as well as sodium sesquicarbonate, is sold to the animal feed market as a feed additive for use by the dairy industry as a buffer, or antacid, for dairy cattle. The Company also markets DCAD Plus feed grade potassium carbonate, which is manufactured by the Armand Products Company as a feed additive into the animal feed market.

The Company markets MEGALAC rumen bypass fat, a nutritional supplement made from natural oils. The Company also markets BIO-CHLOR and FERMENTEN, a range of specialty feed ingredients for dairy cows.     Deutsche Bank announced on Tuesday that it has upgraded Church & Dwight Co., Inc. (CHD).

    The firm has raised its rating on CHD from “Hold” to “Buy,” and has increased the company’s price target from $64 to $66. This price target suggests an 8% upside from the stock’s current price of $60.36.

    Analyst Bill Schmitz commented: “Sustainable growth algorithm of 3-4% organic sales, high single digit EBIT and double-digit EPS growth intact, with upside from fast growing Avid vitamin business joining the base and highly flexible balance sheet enabling further M&A or more aggressive cash flow redeployment providing upside to total shareholder return profile.

    “With shares underperforming the group and market over the last year and tempered Street outlook for CY14 versus long-term trend, we see an opportunistic window to own the shares at a reasonable entry point.”

    Church & Dwight shares were mostly flat during pre-market trading Tuesday. The stock is up 13% YTD.
